UMRC has an immediate need of 60,000 USD to conclude laboratory testing and assessment of uranium contamination in Afghanistan. The samples were collected in September 2002 by UMRC investigators during a field trip to areas affected by the bombing campaign in Afghanistan.
Project Afghanistan: Immediate Financial Requirements
UMRC conducts independent scientific research on uranium contamination
It is UMRC's firm belief that the best contribution it can make in the area of Uranium and DU is to offer independent, objective and expert research. UMRC presents its scientific findings at international scientific and professional conferences and/or peer-reviewed journals and publications.
UMRC relies on funding from private and personal sources to carry out its field, research, and presentation activities.
You can also contribute with funds to enable UMRC to:
- Support UMRC scientists to give lectures and presentations to educate other health care providers who are working in these contaminated areas. (Budget 15,000 USD)
- Conduct research in Kosovo. The World Health Organisation (WHO) went into Kosovo, one year after the last bombings, and found DU and plutonium in the soil. They didn't test humans, and the report was incomplete. (Budget 25,000 USD)
- Conduct research in Iraq as the incidence of cancer, leukemia and birth defects has increased many fold. Today, 11 years after the Gulf War, Iraqi people have not been tested. (Budget 25,000 USD)
- UMRC has presented urine and bone studies at several international scientific conferences in the past three years. Preliminary chromosomal aberration studies have shown significant chromosomal damage in the patients who have tested positive for DU in urine. It is essential to study the link between the chromosomal aberration data and the quantities of DU found in the urine and bones of the patients. (Budget 35,000 USD)
- Continue presenting the research at peer-reviewed scientific and professional conferences and to publish in medical journals. (Budget 35,000 USD)
Tax deductible receipts are issued for contributions made in Canada and the US.
Financial donations can be made by cheque, money order, bank draft or electronic bank transfer.
