How to Support Project: Afghanistan
Donating to Project: Afghanistan
You may support the costs of scientific laboratory costs of analysing the urine, blood, soil and water samples collected in Afghanistan. Each biological and geological sample analysis costs 1,000 USD / 1,500 CAD to be analysed by scientists, using expensive, specialised laboratory equipment and procedures called: Thermal Ionising Mass Spectrometry. There are few independent laboratories with this equipment or with professionals capable of conducting accurate, uranium isotopic analyses. The amount needed for one sample -1,000 USD - is equivalent to more than 4 years of income of most Afghans.
Contribute to Afghanistan and its people
One can support our medical and public health work in Afghanistan. Uranium contamination is a public health disaster for many communities in Afghanistan. Afghan public health organisations require training, laboratory equipment, organizational support and professional/technical materials to respond to and protect themselves from the effects of bombing.
Professional, technical and program staff as well as financing are required to:
- Prepare and deliver educational programs to public health practitioners and community leaders
- Conduct a nation-wide survey of sites, contaminates and effected populations organize an intervention to identify, mark and fence-off contaminated sites (bombsites)
- Dismantle bombed buildings and other damaged, contaminated facilities
- Stabilise, remove and dispose of contaminated soils and building materials
- Resettle families and villages to uncontaminated neighbourhoods
